This is vital information that can help you trace your family history and connect with your African heritage. This test is only for people assigned male or intersex at birth; people assigned female at birth cannot take a PatriClan Test. You must have a Y chromosome to take this test.

We destroy 100% of your DNA samples. We DO NOT sell or share your genetic information.

Your family tree has many branches. Use our Lineage Finder tool to decide which African Ancestry test to take first.

Exploring Your Genetic Roots

We each carry in our DNA a series of indicators that provide information about our ancestry. This information is passed from generation to generation and can tell a profound story about where we come from, and highlight our connections to modern-day Africa.

Your DNA

Your DNA

Depending on which test you purchase, we analyze either the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) that you inherited from your mother or the Y chromosome that people assigned male or intersex at birth inherit from their father. A simple swab from inside your cheek is all we need to begin the process.

Our Process

Our Process

Our African Lineage Database™ contains over 30,000 DNA signatures from more than 400 African ethnic groups. We compare your DNA to this database to find your unique African origin.
