Our father transitioned 25 years ago, so we used my brother’s son. Dad’s paternal lineage is the Bissa tribe in Burkina Faso. He was Afrocentric and would’ve been so proud to know that. We added some decals for his tribe and we made sure Dad got the credit! Our mother picked a tribal surname and we legally have our “rightful”surname, after approximately 500 years of enslavement’s “identity theft!”Our maternal lineage is Yoruba & Fulani from Nigeria. My youngest sister, legally changed her first name to a Yoruba one to honor our mother. We’re “whole,” again!
