How is AfricanAncestry.com different than other companies?

  • We trace the ancestry of a single lineage (maternal or paternal) over the past 2000 years.
  • We provide a present-day African country and ethnic group (tribe). We do not provide percentages of ancestry.
  • Our reference database is at least 11x larger than any other ancestry company.
  • We do not sell or share our customers’ DNA.

Are African results guaranteed?

There is no guarantee that your result will be African. Most African Americans have a mixture of African and European ancestry. Ninety-two percent (92%) of the people who take the maternal test receive an African result. There is an 8% chance that your result will not be African.

What is the refund policy?

African Ancestry does not refund any test after the swabs have been received at the lab.

My Patri Clan Kit arrived on time. Instructions were easy to understand. The only thing I didn't like is that i was not able to add the kit to my Matri Clan account. Now I have to log into two different accounts to retrieve my results.

This feels Unreliable

I haven’t received my order still. I have checked with usps & they have no information on the tracking number that was given to me. I haven’t been able to track this order at all. Neither usps or this company has been able to tell me that status of my package( which is not cheap & should have better customer service & tracking status information). I ordered this product 3 weeks ago & I have no clue what is going on with my purchase, not even any emails from this company to confirm or ensures the safety of sensitive information, being this is a DNA test.

I like it but my pendant is very rustic with a shiny chain that doesn't seem to be a good match. I am looking for a more rustic chain that will look better. The picture you provide at ordering looks nothing like what I received.

Great customer service

I emailed customer service about updates on my 1st swabs because it was going on 30 days and they still hadn't received them by mail. I was worried something happened because my husband sent his swabs in about 30 days after I sent mine and he was updated in about 10 days. African Ancestry didn't hesitate to send the matriclan swabs to me again. I really appreciate it because it eased my mind. I did send the 2nd swabs back with insurance on them just in case something happened again. Thank you customer support because this is important and exciting for me!

Evidence of our origin

I am elated to be able to present the certificates to my mother, my children, my grandchildren and my great- grandson. The fact that I can give them proof of where we originated, is mind blowing to me! I've done family tree research for us over the years, but nothing can top having proof of where we originated! My mother is 91 and to be able to show her this proof is priceless!! The only problem is that I did not get a certificate for myself. When I did the testing I received a letter and certificate via email and it was no where near as nice as the ones I ordered for my family.
